Introducing the Oceanside CrossFit Team
Meet the fitness experts ready to help you achieve your fitness goals and your potential.
My parents made sure to keep my siblings and I out of trouble by keeping us active. I was either participating in ballet, gymnastics or tennis. The benefits of a healthy lifestyle were crammed down my throat but because of it, it has greatly influenced my life choices. As an adult I attended Globo gyms on a regular basis and went on to major in nutrition and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics at Cal State Long Beach.
I was introduced to CrossFit in August 2006 by my brother. I was completely impressed by what I could accomplish in such a short time and as a stay-at-home Mom that was life changing and I never looked back. In fact, my brother and I could not stop talking about opening a CrossFit gym in Oceanside. Apparently, we talked too much, so my husband essentially said, “shut up about it or follow your dream”. Obviously, the latter happened, and we started a CrossFit gym in my brother’s garage in May of 2007.
I can’t imagine doing anything else. Supporting and helping people to achieve their goals is a privilege!

I have been involved in multiple types of competitive sports growing up, but my real passion was in skateboarding. After around 15 years my body started to break down from previous injuries and lack of recovery during them. It was at this time I found weightlifting at a normal gym and started trying to fix some problems. After countless times of a friend nagging me to come in and try CrossFit, I finally did. It was exactly what I needed. It was that first day that I knew what I needed to be doing with my life moving forward. Since that day I have educated myself through thousands of hours of learning and coaching. As a coach/owner at Oceanside CrossFit I can say with confidence that you will meet the goals you set here. With our educated coaching staff and amazing community, we have built over the past 13 years in North San Diego County there is no failure, just progress.

Jeff’s coaching and instructor experience extends far beyond that of the CrossFit methodology serving 14 years in Special Operations for the U.S. Army. Then employed as the lead firearms and defensive tactics instructor, training protective agents for the Department of State as well as other government agencies, Jeff trained these agents in the techniques and tactics required to serve in some of the most hostile regions in the world. This experience has correlated well with the CrossFit methodology through a solid understanding of Anatomy and Physiology, injury prevention, and recovery in regards to training and maximizing an athletes potential.
I’m 55 years old and have been doing CrossFit now exclusively since 2004. I was first introduced to CrossFit when we had a few visitors come to our jiu jitsu studio to check it out. I wasn’t impressed with their technique but was beyond impressed with their ability to make up for the lack of technique through their strength and conditioning. When I inquired about what they do to achieve that level of fitness one replied “We CrossFit.” My only reply was “What’s that, I want some, and how do I get it?” From there I was introduced to Michael Street from CrossFit Eastside, http://www.crossfiteastside.com. I trained out of his garage and began my own journey to elite fitness, which continues to this day. In a short amount of time I began to reap the benefits of this program. I began to achieve a level of fitness I had never attained before despite training in gyms such as 24 hour fitness daily and literally for hours. As I grew in my training and understanding of CrossFit I knew that I would adopt this program as a lifestyle rather than a hobby.
As with most of us evolving into our middle aged years and beyond I was beginning to be plagued with acute and chronic injuries, as well as weight gain. As frustrating as this was I thought this was just the circle of life and I would just have to accept the fact that I was just getting older. I now enjoy training pain and injury free and went from 28% body fat to below 10%. Not that I don’t still get injured on occasion because of the active lifestyle I lead but it doesn’t happen in the gym. In fact, the CF program is so vast and varied that when I am injured I am back in the gym within days continuing my training. I am always able to work around any injuries I have suffered from outside activities.
Lastly, I have been a dedicated brazilian jiu jitsu guy since 1997. I love to compete in this arena win or lose. Before incorporating CrossFit as my strength and conditioning program I was just your “run of the mill” jits enthusiast, win some matches, lose some matches, maybe medal but probably not. I have competed in the Pan Ams as well as traveled to Brazil to compete in the World Championships both in 2007 and 2008 with all of my wins by submission in my weight division. The CrossFit program has given me an unrelenting ability to push throughout every match. Watching my opponents fatigue while I only got stronger, allowing me to push harder with each passing minute neutralizing my opponents technique while I was able to apply my own submission holds.

Growing up I was just an average athlete in a few sports and in high school. I tried to stay active by doing the usual gym thing, cardio for endurance & weightlifting for strength, in college and after. However, something in life always seemed to put a wrench in the fitness habit and derail it for a while, sometimes a long while. I was again battling the ‘furniture complex’. My health wasn’t good, again, and it was getting worse. I was looking for something that I could incorporate into my life and make it stick for good for a healthier me. A healthier me for me, for my wife and for my growing family.
Enter Oceanside CrossFit in August 2007. It started from a desire tlo make a positive change in my health and mostly because some very good friends had jumped in and started. The result: CrossFit has been an essential part of transforming my life, beyond what I thought or imagined was possible. CrossFit has certainly helped me achieve my physical health goals and improve on them over time. What I didn’t realize was the positive effects CrossFit would bring into my life as a whole. Doing CrossFit has enabled me to excel in other areas of my life like family, faith, career, and community.
I am extremely grateful for the community of encouragement (owners, coaches & athletes) at Oceanside CrossFit. It has been instrumental to me in my quest for getting healthy and staying healthy. I have received so much being a part of this community over the years. I am really excited to have the opportunity to give back and coach where it all started and continues for me. I hope you will join in and get started with us.
