December Athlete of the Month - Chris Wilson
Published December 3, 2017
Hi, my name is Chris Wilson and I’ve been happily married to my beautiful wife, Kelsey for five years. We've been in Oceanside for three years now and have two children, Jack (2-1/2) and Reese (5 months). I was born and raised in San Clemente, where I attended San Clemente high school and played defensive end for their football team. I then received a football scholarship to the University of Arizona, where I played defensive end as well.
Later, I wanted to pursue a career in Firefighting so I went to paramedic school in Riverside and completed the fire academy as well. With many applications out to multiple fire departments throughout California, I was finally hired by the Oceanside fire department in 2012 as a firefighter/paramedic.
Working out has always been a big part of my life. I love weightlifting and challenging myself physically. Working out has also helped me in my career since it is a physically demanding job.
Since joining Crossfit 3 years ago, I have lost 30 lbs, while maintaining overall strength. I feel stronger, healthier and receiving many positive compliments from my wife, makes all the hard work worth it. I have changed my diet and eating habits/ alcohol consumption, which has made me feel physically and mentally the best I’ve felt in years.
What I love most about Crossfit are the friendships that come with this community and that we can be competitive with each other yet support one another. I enjoy the variety of workouts and how they challenge me and most of all the competition. My short-term goal is to increase my strength and my long-term goal is to maintain and increase fitness levels without injury. I hope to continue my journey here at Oceanside Crossfit and set new goals for the future. Thank you for supporting me.
