August Athlete of the Month - Luke Peña

My name is Luke Peña, I’m 39 years old and single (and ready to mingle). I’ve been working in the Defense Industry for almost 10 years. I’m a Former Marine and dad to my two awesome daughters, Kathryn and Olivia. I enjoy hanging out with family and friends, fitness to include 12-ounce curls and laughing at my own jokes.

2016 was a rough year for me so I decided it was time for a change. In late Nov. I bought a Groupon for a month of classes at OCF. The funny thing is, I could only hang for 2 days/week because I needed a few days in between classes to recover! In Jan 2017 I decided to make myself show up 4-5x/week and so far have been able to keep it up!

My fitness background consists of wrestling, weightlifting, and Marine Corps PT.

The first three months were rough! I came in thinking I was a tough guy, only to find out that I was actually a little b!tch. Once I found my physical strength increasing, it was the mental strength that was harder to maintain while trying to get thru the WODS…especially after lifting.

I’m proud of all of my accomplishments so far at OCF as I have blown all of my previous PR’s away, even PR’s from the military when I was in my 20’s! I really enjoy the feeling of accomplishment after the tough workouts and feeling the soreness in my muscles. Hint: The soreness never goes away.

I enjoy the camaraderie most here at OCF. Everyone is warm, friendly and outgoing, the coaches really want to help you out, It’s like a family here (sniffle).

Some goals would be getting one damn muscle-up! I’m right friggin there! C’mon already, Geez!.... I’d like to get some lung capacity back so I don’t gas out during runs, burpees etc…….Ummm start paying more attention to diet…..maybe try a comp at some point?
