July Athlete of the Month -- Lauren Schoener

My name is Lauren Schoener and I am a 27-year-old single Marine.  I am a Criminal Investigator and you can find me yelling (and dancing) whilst coaching at Oceanside Crossfit.  My hobbies include coaching youth sports, eating, hitting the beach, spontaneous dance parties, ambushing any dog I see, making sarcastic remarks, and traveling.  Despite what many think, I am an avid lover of an afternoon nap.
In 2008, I joined the United States Marine Corps because I wanted to serve my country and test myself mentally/physically.  I’ve always been a string bean of a person and thought “strength” was something unattainable with my giraffe limbs.  After a brief stint of loving to run (I’m convinced I was brainwashed) I was introduced to weightlifting and eventually Crossfit in 2011.  I am not the most graceful person, but what I lack in coordination and skill, I make up for in EXTREME AMOUNTS OF ENTHUSIASM.  I knew I was hooked after my first WOD and had finally found the niche of fitness best suited for me.
In December 2015, I moved from my first Crossfit gym in Yuma AZ and was in desperate need of a new gym to call “home”.  After doing some research I stumbled upon Oceanside Crossfit and came for a Saturday workout.  What drew me in was the thick sense of community and comradery I felt in the air (or was that humidity) as we all suffered in unison.  I joined in April 2016 and haven’t looked back since.
My current short term goals are to win the Marine Corps HITT Competition and to start taking college courses working towards a degree in psychology.  My long term goals are to serve 20 years in the Marine Corps, obtain my BA degree, make it to regionals on a team, and find a dog to ride shotgun in my truck.   
What I am proud of the most are all the athletes who come into OCF, tolerate my energy, and push themselves to a healthier physical and mental space.  I cannot count the number of times I’ve leaped off boxes, bear hugged, and cried as these athletes demolish old personal records.  THESE ARE THE MOMENTS THAT MATTER THE MOST.  I hope to learn and grow with the Oceanside Crossfit community for as long as possible. DO DO DO DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *loud yelling*
